Southwark is looking for a teacher to take Year 4 in its modern, well-resourced primary school in Rotherhithe.
Given the current teacher recruitment crisis, headteacher Norna Moses could be forgiven if she had advertised for "anyone, anytime soon", but she is made of sterner stuff. Ms Moses recently filled one vacancy after a long spell of supply teaching and, although she is keen to fill this post, she is prepared to go back to the supply pool rather than appoint the wrong person for her south-east London school.
"Ideally I'm looking for a skilled, experienced teacher," she said, "but newly qualified staff are welcome to apply." And who could resist, when the application letter will be addressed to a head named after Sir Walter Scott character who was a "wise woman and weaver of spells" (The Pirate)?
Along with her brand of wizardry and magic, applicants can expect a welcoming, supporting school which presents plenty of challenges. "But that means lots of satisfaction when those challenges are met," says Ms Moses.
The school has a roll of about 470 three to 11-year-olds. Despite its inner city location, it has attractive grounds.
A retention allowance and a staff cr che may help to tempt teachers who have taken time out from the classroom.
Applications should be made to Rotherhithe Primary School as soon as possible with a view to starting work after the Easter break. You can contact Ms Moses on 020 7237 1586.
