Kelly in peril?

13th May 2005 at 01:00
Clairvoyants, part 1. So how will Ruth Kelly cope with Tony Blair's educational svengali Andrew Adonis serving under her as a junior minister? In his former role as Blair's education adviser, Mr (now Lord) Adonis ruffled David Blunkett's feathers, when he was in charge - Mr Blunkett was overheard exclaiming: "Someone has to decide who's running this thing!"

And Mr Adonis's possible part in the downfall of Estelle Morris has been muttered about ever since she handed in her red box. Could it be that Ms Kelly is the final obstacle in the inexorable rise of Mr Adonis? After all, as far back as 2000 the New Statesman magazine called him "the real education secretary".
