Languages report 'unworkable'

16th March 2001 at 00:00
The GTC has dismissed the Mulgrew report on modern languages as "unrealistic and unworkable".

The council's education committee said there would be "enormous implications" for supply teachers, entry requirements, initial teacher educatio and modern languages teachers themselves.

The accreditation committee, which scrutinises teacher education, stated:

"There is a clear need for some form of specialised delivery of modern languages in the primary school."
