Leaflets condemned

Teacher unions have condemned the Government for advertising the Assisted Places Scheme in local post offices. John Bangs, head of education at the National Union of Teachers, said it was a "thundering waste of money at a time when the Government had underfunded schools by Pounds 750m". The 650,000 leaflets cost Pounds 50,000.
