Learning games

Perhaps you have concerns that the national literacy hour will leave little time for children to play and learn in the more relaxed tradition we have all grown used to but there are plenty of resources on offer which give children the practice they need in reading skills, while allowing them to develop their social skills through play. Switch, from LDA, for example, is a card game which supports phonic teaching.

Each card is illustrated to reinforce phonic reading and each letter (including u, x and z) is shown in different ways. Switch set 1 deals with initial sounds, Switch set 2 deals with initial consonant blends. Each set contains four packs of cards (180 cards), priced pound;24.95 each.

* Further information and catalogue from LDA, Duke Street, Wisbech, Cambridgeshire PE13 2AE (01945 463441, fax 01945 587361).
