Leicestershire - Hi-tech centre adds drama to post-16 plans

9th October 2009 at 01:00

A #163;13 million centre for post-16 students has been approved by councillors in Leicestershire.

The site in Melton Mowbray will include four learning zones, science labs and a dance and drama studio. There will also be a learning resources centre, including a library, ICT facilities and classrooms with moveable walls to allow for teaching with large or small groups.

Students will study at the centre after attending one of the four partner secondaries in the area.

The centre is part of the #163;45 million Melton Mowbray and Vale of Belvoir reorganisation of schools and is situated on the King Edward VII School campus. A planning application for the new centre is due to be submitted in April, with an open date scheduled for 2011.

Ivan Ould, Leicestershire County Council's cabinet member for children and young people's service, said: "The new centre... will provide excellent facilities and a first-class standard of education." DM.
