Let pupils sit their exams when ready;Letter

I read with interest about changes to the timings of various exams and the impact this might have on pass rates (TES, August 13). I suppose it would be thinking the unthinkable to dispense with this early-summer ritual altogether and simply allow pupils to sit exams when ready to do so?
