Thank you for publishing Bob Aston's article about the many sexist stereotypes that still abound within our primary schools about male and female teachers (25 April). It makes such a change to read a male head teacher actually recognising that "sexism is alive and well".
His view that the demise of men in primary teaching is "not necessarily to be lamented" challenges government recruitment policies which continue to asssume (with no research to support their assumptions) that, as Aston's parent believed: "a man teacher will sort him out".nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;
However, I do not agree that women teachers are "too quiescent" - I and my female friends are not - rather nobody bothers to report their voices.
