Letters Extra: Holland Park - staff support change

29th November 2002 at 00:00

I writenbsp;as one of the 'two former London Heads invited by Mr Hall to consult staff on new strategies' at Holland Park School (TES, November 15). This was a wide and thorough consultation.

We met individually, in private, with 91 teachers andnbsp;10 non-teaching staff and talked with most of the governors. All were invited to give their views in strict confidence on the Head's development proposals.

A full summary of views was prepared for the Governors, the Head and the Leadership team without identifying individuals' views. In addition we reported back in person to the Governors and to a full staff meeting.

It is fair to say that we found 'deep resistance to change' on the part of some teachers but others, including a significant number of long-serving staff, were strongly in support of the current leadership and its vision for the future life of the school and its students.
