The Light House by James Osborn Brown
JAMES OSBORN BROWN This submission was accompanied by a teacher's note pointing out that "these are two separate haiku - albeit appearing under one title". I prefer not to separate them, though. They complement each other, with the sea crashing down in the first and the rocks staggering up in the second. I like the combination of colour, decorative opulence (the sapphire and purple) and elemental force. The title is well-chosen, establishing a perspective and reinforcing the sense of danger. John Mole James Osborn Brown, 8, receives Back by Midnight by John Mole (Puffin).
