Literacy - Celebrated tales

16th October 2009 at 01:00

The Scottish International Storytelling Festival - Scotland's annual celebration of traditional and contemporary story-telling - is being held from October 23 to November 1.

This year is the festival's 20th anniversary and it will include leading storytellers from the United States, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and the Caribbean, as well as the best of Scotland's tellers.

Its theme is "homelands", and it will explore stories and histories of belonging, identity, migration and exploration. The festival also offers interactive events, the chance to meet the story-tellers and some lively workshops.

Although most of the events take place at the Scottish Storytelling Centre in Edinburgh, the festival is going on tour to Aberdeenshire, Dumfries and Galloway, Argyll and Bute, Highlands, Glasgow and Tayside.; T: 0131 556 9579.
