Literacy - What's the buzz?

The national "spelling bee" is again seeking entries, with Scottish heats next week.

These will be held in the Cineworld cinemas in Falkirk (March 15) and Glasgow (March 16). Successful schools will go forward to semi-finals in May, with 10 winning teams travelling to London for the final in June.

Teams for the event, sponsored by The Times, should comprise three pupils aged 11 or 12, plus one reserve. They can practise with free puzzles and games on the spelling bee website.

The inaugural event was held last year, and attracted entries from 1,000 schools around the UK.
