Library staff have pledged to work with parents and teachers to promote literacy among primary pupils. John Dolan, of the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council, said he will mobilise library expertise to support the national year of reading in 2008. He said libraries can help children to enjoy reading through author visits, "rhyme time" sessions and book clubs.
