The Liberal Democrats are campaigning for children to become "health literate" in a bid to fight obesity in the UK. A new policy, to be launched this week, wants schools to teach basic food shopping and cookery.

The party blames obesity on the "microwave generation" who have relied on high salt and sugar in pre-packed meals. It also wants to introduce a mandatory two hours of school sport every week.
