Still on the joys of the curriculum. Nobody will take greater satisfaction from slimming down the primary curriculum than Maggi Allan, the lady in charge (TESS, last week).

For was Allan not the very person who chaired the 5-14 group that drew up the original environmental guidelines which are now to be "decluttered"?

Well, yes and no. Her group drew them up, only for the guidelines to fall among subject specialists who added their own considerable content.

The rest is history - and geography and science.
