Ian Borthwick, Dundee's Independent Labour firebrand, is unlikely to be on director of education Anne Wilson's Christmas card list. Borthwick told fellow councillors last week that he had rarely seen a director's report (on school closures) "riddled with so many inaccuracies and inconsistent conclusions".

"Who produced this report?" a constituent allegedly asked Borthwick. "Paul Daniels?"
