4th December 2009 at 00:00

A female religious education teacher at a school in Greater Manchester has been jailed for 32 months for having sex with a pupil she seduced on Facebook.

Madeleine Martin, 39, admitted having a sexual relationship with the 15-year-old boy which lasted for eight days in February. She bought him gifts including a mobile phone and the pair agreed to get tattoos, Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court heard.

Jennifer Birch, prosecuting, told the court: "She drove them to a retail park and they participated in consensual sexual intercourse."

Ms Martin, of Knutsford, Cheshire, who is divorced with two teenage daughters, set up a Facebook account under a fake name to prevent the liaison being discovered, the court heard. ED.
