Mature entrants unite

14th February 1997 at 00:00
I have read with interest the recent letters from newly qualified teachers who trained as mature students and have been unable to find teaching posts. I have had similar experiences.

Discrimination against mature NQTs must be brought to the attention of those recruiting, who frequently claim to be "equal opportunity employers", and to the Department for Education and Employment. There is little purpose in spending time and money training mature people only to deny them the opportunity of working in their chosen profession.

I should be interested to hear from anyone who finds himherself in this situation. Please write to me giving your age, your chosen subject, the number of posts you have applied for, any feedback you have had during de-briefings and details of your qualifications.
