ATTEMPTS to distance herself from 18 years of Tory rule left delegates unmoved when Conservative education spokeswoman Theresa May spoke.

Mrs May faced cries of "shame" as she promised that a Conservative governmet would let teachers get on with teaching.

As the jeering grew, the MP said: "I can hear your scepticism but I was not here last time. The next Conservative government will trust professional teachers."
