BAFFLED by science? Confused by research? The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council is attempting to raise the profile and understanding of research by funding a media fellowship. The first academic to benefit is Tony Ryan, ICI professor of chemistry at Sheffield University. He has also been chosen to present the 2002 series of Christmas lectures at the Royal Institution to be broadcast on Channel 4, and is planning innovative TV science programmes.
