Miscellaneous - Teachers' top 20 resources

23rd September 2011 at 01:00

What is it?

A collection of teachers' all-time top 20 primary resources, based on the number of times they have downloaded them and how favourably they have been reviewed.

Getting started

On the language side, there is a great variety here, from stevesmith69's simple and complex sentences for subordinating connectives, to cariad2's selection of quick-fire activities for VCOP (vocabulary, connectives, openers, punctuation). The latter are suitable for use in plenary or as five-minute time fillers. There are also some colourful resources from Zakjan to make VCOP much more interesting.

For maths, What am I? is a useful worksheet from Miss Mac to support children naming and describing the properties of 3D shapes, and Maths Word Problem Cards from superkings has more than 100 cards with colourful pictorial prompts. There's a series of A4 posters for a variety of topics including shape and space, measuring, angles, decimals, fractions and percentages, from cathyd. Two activities involving estimating and measuring capacity of various containers have been contributed by carriecat10. And there is a Division Board Game, contributed by Cat in the Hat, which has three differentiated levels, for pupils using the grouping method as well as those using short division.

Taking it further

To develop children's thinking skills, aweean has contributed Six Thinking Hat Posters, an attractive set for classroom display, based on De Bono's six thinking hats. These help children to focus on a particular thinking skill. And for PE, there's a resources sheet, from mattiek, detailing warm-ups.
