To swagger and fall

Hoch Deutsch is out and jugendsprache in, with

What is it?

A German website where young people can upload words that are a feature of "youth language". A top five has been consolidated by a jury: swag, failepic fail, guttenbergen, korperklaus and googeln. Can your students recognise the similarities between slang used in Germany and England? Can they identify the meaning of the words?

Rosered27 has shared a comprehension worksheet and answer booklet for a lesson on youth culture and the media using the site. It comprises a quiz; an "answer the questions in German" section; and a writing task about jugendsprache in England.

What else?

Libraries of the youth words are available in book or e-book app format from the site.
