As the summer blockbusters hit cinema screens, TES Resources user brettl's film tag lines activity brings some movie magic to the German classroom.
What is it?
Pupils are introduced to film tag lines by looking at a number of film posters, then given a list of tag lines for popular films (including Titanic, E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial (pictured below) and Apollo 13), written in German. They must translate each one and match it to the correct film. Pupils are then asked to pick their favourite tag line and explain their choice. They then divide the films into categories, explaining their reasoning again. Finally, pupils work with a partner to create their own German tag line for a film of their choice.
Why is it useful?
A great introduction to a media unit, the activity provides an opportunity to practise giving opinions and develops confidence in speaking.
Continue on the film theme by getting pupils to write film reviews for a magazine or blog and introduce them to popular German films such as Lola Rennt (Run Lola Run).
