Budgeting is always a compromise between desire and reality. Budgeting for Beginners, an excellent website with activities for 11 to 16-year-olds, shows how the wish for CDs, crisps and clothes has to be balanced against more mundane facts, such as bills, taxes and the need to save. Calculators can be used to enter values for items such as car loans and council tax, and then work out how much money can be kept or even invested.
