At Finchley Reform Synagogue in London, a candle is lit in remembrance of those who died in the Holocaust; this was part of an event for local secondary schools organised by the synagogue and the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust (

"We encourage young people to visit synagogues throughout the year," said Stephen Smith, the trust's chair. "Remembering Jewish suffering should not be confused with learning about Jewish life and culture."
