In the City Centre, the young homeless of Manchester and Contact Youth Theatre are presenting a roving urban nativity scene, moving through the streets in costume with music around Shambles Square, Albert Square or Piccadilly Gardens.
The Youth Theatre has been running drama workshops in hostels and day centres for the three weeks leading up to the performances with the participation of Contact Youth Theatre director Renny O'Shea and designer Andrew Wood. The performances, starting at 4.30pm, change location each evening. This very special project, sponsored by BT, culminates in the construction of a magnificent shelter, accompanied by specially composed music and under the gaze of angels.
* A new production of J M Barrie's story, Peter Pan - the British Musical, starring Ron Moody and Nicola Stapleton, has just opened at the Cambridge Theate in London's West End and runs until January 21. To coincide with it a CD is being released (Pounds 11.99 recommended).
