National poetry day October 4

21st September 2001 at 01:00
This year's theme is "Journeys", and education packs have already been sent to every school, full of ideas for using poetry in the classroom. There will also be activities and readings in libraries and bookshops. Ottakar's, for example, is running a poetry competition at each of its local stores.

The BBC is running a poll to find the nation's favourite children's poem, and will broadcast the results on October 3. For more information visit www.poetrysoc.com.
