* The power of the silver screen is being enlisted by the National Year of Reading, the Government-backed literacy campaign.

January has been designated as "Screen Reads", one of the monthly themes. The NYR has given a pound;5,000 grant to help the charity, Film Education, to show films adapted from books to thousands of children for free. These will include Twelfth Night and Shakespeare in Love.
