Nicola Sturgeon, the SNP's pugnacious former education spokeswoman, whose needle stuck on the "Sam Must Go Immediately" track, was quickly into her stride in her new brief.

Launching an atack on the Health Minister's plans for flu jabs, she fumed:

"This smacks of staggering incompetence on the part of Susan Deacon . . ."

Surely Deacon et al must now resign?
