We are glad to report that all is harmony on the school music front in North Ayrshire.

Councillors were singing the same tune as they threw their weight behind the establishment of a North Ayrshire school choir and a North Ayrshire schools band. They are also to support the all-Ayrshire schools orchestra until June 1998.

Father Matthew McManus, the Roman Catholic representative on the education committee, was anxious that more traditional musical forms were not overlooked. "Can I be assured," he asked the committee with a straight face, "that there will be no diminution of flute instruction in Kilwinning?"
