Dr Sam, we were reminded by a press wag, during yet another parliamentary inquisition, bears a passing resemblance to that estimable thespian Alastair Sim - laconic, lugubrious, saturnine.

Among Sim's 50-plus films, we have noted Troubled Waters, Sailing Along, This Man Is News, The Hppiest Days of Your Life, Folly To Be Wise, An

Inspector Calls, The Doctor's Dilemma, School for Scoundrels and The Ruling Class. Galbraith may, however, feel more empathy with one of Sim's best known characterisations as the judge in the classic TV sitcom Misleading Cases.
