Children from schools across Kent enter the 2011 Battle of the Bots with robots they created from basic kits. The Skinners' School in Tunbridge Wells won the competition.

A pupil from Nightingale Primary in Hackney, east London, gets up close and personal with a butterfly during a visit to the Natural History Museum's Sensational Butterflies exhibition, which runs until 11 September.

Rush Green Junior School pupils challenge Mayor Milton McKenzie to a tug of war at their sports day, hosted by Barking and Dagenham College.

Kapil Dev, former captain of India's cricket team, opens the new cricket pitch at Soar Valley College in Leicester.

The Astronautical Challenge is an online project designed to inspire children about science. Primary pupils tackle cross-curricular tasks, uploading their responses to their class's bespoke website. http:unsa.org.uk.
