The Art of Teaching Writing (Routledge), a new book by Mark Hartley, is aimed at teachers of 7- to 12-year-olds. It contains 14 units of learning, assessment tasks and guidance on teaching different writing styles, including biographies, fiction and poetry.

The two- year programme will give young people a foundation degree in communications systems, security and computing, and a level 4 diploma in IT professional competence. There are tips on organising visits from local companies and projects that test pupils' skills such as promoting a rock band and creating an advertising campaign.
Save time with stickers
Use vmarsden's stickers to get through marking more quickly. If a pupil leaves out a full stop, give them a sticker reminding them how and why to use them. There are also stickers for connectives, spacing and "wow" words.
