Now all we need to do is stay above average

17th June 2011 at 01:00

Almost 50 per cent of schools were below average - Shocking! I have uncovered some other equally worrying statistics ...

1. Only one in five of our pupils in in the top 20 per cent.

2. 40 per cent of all teacher sick days are taken on Mondays and Fridays.

Although some schools are apparently "average", if you compare their performance to that of the schools that achieved the greatest success, it turns out that they did far worse than these schools. And that is apparently an average school. How can anyone justify that?

These facts should be addressed by the Government as soon as possible if we are to improve, for example, the standard of mathematics in our schools.
