NUT's Gethin to step down

Gethin Lewis is to retire as secretary of the National Union of Teachers Cymru next May, on his 60th birthday. Mr Lewis, formerly head of Gabalfa primary school in Cardiff, became secretary in 1997. Steve Sinnott, the union's general secretary, said it was to Mr Lewis's credit that NUT Cymru had successfully met the challenges of devolutionsince then.
