OFSTED failed Summerhill;Letter

13th August 1999 at 01:00
BY attempting to close Summerhill, the progressive school in Suffolk, the Office for Standards in Education has shown that it cannot recognise good education when it sees it - unless it conforms narrowly to its own ideas on the subject.

What confidence can we have in its recent adverse report on Leicester education authority? The time has come to put an end to this oppressive, Thought Police model of inspection.
