Ofsted is far from satisfactory

2nd December 2011 at 00:00

If anyone had any remaining doubts about Ofsted's lack of independence, they should read the commentary for this year's chief inspector's annual report ("Ofsted reveals how its star exemptions fell from grace", 25 November). Over the years we have seen politically inspired soft-touch inspections, tough-touch inspections and everything in between. We have seen "satisfactory" redefined as complacent or failing. Perhaps it is time for Ofsted to be truly independent or disbanded.
