Ofsted under fire from Tories

The Conservatives have written to Maurice Smith, chief inspector, criticising the letters Ofsted sends to pupils about their schools.

David Willetts, shadow education secretary, said the post-inspection letters are damaging discipline and staff morale. He said he had been alerted to the issue by comments made at National Association of Head Teachers' conference. Heads said the letters, introduced last September, sometimes inadvertently identified teachers they criticised.
