Ofsted's new dawn casts a dark shadow

17th February 2012 at 00:00

So the new chief of Ofsted is keen to make his mark. He certainly comes with an excellent track record for getting things done. But surely he can not be so politically naive or inept. To suggest that renaming the legal status of the satisfactory grade would open the door for the forced conversion of more schools into academies "didn't enter my head" is an unacceptable excuse. Didn't the secretary of state for education once describe him as "my hero"?

Dr Alan Thomas, Retired primary headteacher.
