All the Scholastic History kits include a fictional story, with an additional lesson plan and activity sheets. In Ancient Greece it comes as a boy's diary in a year that included the 75th Olympiad and the Battles of Thermopylae and Salamis.

The fictional hero of the story gets involved through his father's connections. He is Themistocles, a real person, who was head of the Athenian Republic at the time of the Persian invasion. The kit provides background information in encyclopedic detail, lesson plans like those we did on teaching practice and photocopiable worksheets, maps and line-drawings for classroom work, homework and assessment. An an attractive illustrated timeline and map for the wall and nine picture sheets of source material, with notes on the back is also included.
