Opt-out block

Glasgow has hit back at parents of St Gerard's Secondary in Govan by launching a formal consultation on the school's closure to coincide with the timetable for opt-out ballots. The school will almost certainly be brought back into the city's closure plans along with six other secondaries. An amendment to the opt-out legislation, established through the 1996 Education Act, allows the council to proceed.
