Your job and career questions answered

Q: I am starting my first job in September after several years working in industry. Can I ask to start above main scale 1?

A: Yes, you can. Previous experience can be taken into account by a school when setting your entry point on the main scale. After you have been offered the post and before formally accepting it, is a sensible time to discuss this sort of issue. Don't leave it until you receive your formal contract.
