Penny repays the favour

29th April 2005 at 01:00
Author Penny Dolan knew exactly where to turn for her own focus group when she finished the first draft of her latest children's picture book, Mr Pod and Mr Piccalilli.

The Harrogate writer nipped down to her local village school in Beckwithshaw to hear what children thought of her work.

All went swimmingly: the children learned how authors and publishers work and Penny heard what they thought of layout and plotlines.

And now the book, illustrated by Nick Sharratt and published by Walker Books, is out, there's a special surprise for Penny's little helpers. She has dedicated it to 'all my friends at Beckwithshaw primary school, Yorkshire.'

No doubt the children will be delighted. Not to mention the school literacy co-ordinator, the aptly-named Mrs Storey.
