Ruth Szulecki, formerly an inspector of residential and daycare units, has been appointed East Sussex's first early-years co-ordinator as part of an overall strategy worked out by the council's Early Years Partnership Group.

Anne-Marie Sutcliffe, deputy head of Channing School, Highgate, London, will become the first woman head of Emanuel School, Wandsworth, one of London's oldest independent schools, in September 1998.

Susan Bell, formerly director of curriculum services at Gateshead College, is to become deputy principal of the college.
