Elspeth Hyams, formerly deputy director of the Booksellers Association, has been appointed director of the Institute of Information Scientists.

Professor Bob Boucher, pro-vice-chancellor at Sheffield University, will become principal and vice-chancellor of University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology from September 1, 1995.

Carolyne Willow, formerly children's rights officer for Leicestershire Social Services, has been appointed programme development manager (Midlands region) for the children's residential care unit at the National Children's Bureau.
