Vic Seddon, dean of corporate and commercial development at Teesside University, Middlesbrough, will become principal and chief executive of Croydon College on October 1.

Grampian has made the following appointments: Charlotte Harkess, formerly deputy head of Glashieburn primary school, now head of Seaton primary, Aberdeen, replacing Margaret Currie who has retired; Linda Glassar, formerly senior teacher at Woodside school, now head of Hilton nursery school, Aberdeen, replacing Helen Robertson who has retired; David Vass, formerly head of Pilmuir school, now head of Elgin East End primary, replacing Anne Wilson, who has taken early retirement; Carol Bruce, formerly a teacher at Monquhitter primary, now head of Ordiquhill primary, Banff, replacing Sheila McRae who has retired; and Heather Robb, formerly a teacher at Portessie primary, now head of Botriphnie primary, Keith, replacing Davina Gray who has retired.

David Sainsbury, chairman of Sainsbury plc, has been awarded an honorary doctorate of technology by Loughborough University of Technology.
