John Simpson, formerly chief inspector of schools for Brent, has become chief education officer for the borough. He replaces Paul Doherty who is now chief executive at Swindon.

Philip Lough, formerly a housemaster at Marlborough College, Wiltshire, is now head of Windlesham House School, near Findon in West Sussex.

Ken Tompkin, formerly deputy head of Ravens Wood School, Bromley, has become head of Hurstmere School, Sidcup, Kent.

John Forster, head of King James's Secondary School, Knaresborough, Yorkshire, is to retire next Easter.

Tim Kilbride, formerly head of Windsor School in Rheindahlen, Germany, has been appointed head of Ratcliffe College, Leicestershire. He takes over from Father Tony Baxter and is the first "lay" head in the school's 150-year history.
