Plumbing tutors in pipeline

11th February 2005 at 00:00
In response to your editorial and article "Cash on tap for plumbers" (FE Focus, January 28), ensuring adequate tutor supply has long been on our priority list.

We are currently involved in a project where contractors bidding for local authority work are being asked to supply craftsmen to be tutors.

Another possible solution suggested by an employer is to encourage tutoring to skilled tradespeople who are considering retirement and looking for other opportunities.

This is a key objective for our and every other sector skills council. The work undertaken in these forthcoming years to address such problems should pave the way for a more prosperous tutor network.
