YOUR article "Victory for Kent's anti-grammar lobby" (TES, August 3) underestimates Kent County Council's achievements in successfully co-ordinating admission arrangements to secondary schools throughout the county.
A difference of opinion did arise over whether tests for selective schools should precede, as the local education authority proposed, or follow the date when parents express their preference of school. The adjudicator found against the LEA on this point.
In so doing I must emphasise he was certainly not taking sides in any argument for or against grammar schools. That would have been quite outside an adjudicator's remit and nothing in the recent adjudication could or should be interpreted otherwise.
