* A tale of our examination times!

Son sits Edexcel GCSE maths one year early. Results slip tells him simply that he has been awarded grade A. School exam officer tells parents that son needed 90 per cent to get an A*, and he scored 89.7 per cent . Parent pays more than pound;45 to get papers re-marked. Second results slip arrives telling son he now has three more marks and a grade A*.

Morals of this story: 1. Have an efficient and pro-active examinations officer.

2. Be able to afford pound;45.

3. Accept that it may cost you this sum to get a paper marked accurately.
